Metal detecting digging tips and techniques which saves both time and targets
Use proper technique, be patient and don't rush
It's tempting when there's a good signal to want to rush to quickly reach the target, but this could result in spending more time trying to locate it. Stick to the correct technique and always replace both the soil and the plug as tidily as possible.
Pin point accurately before digging
When detecting a signal, first pin point accurately where it is located, use a pin pointer to attempt a more precise location. Once you established the most likely location of the target, start digging. By digging a large hole around the spot where the signal was the target may end up relocated and when it becomes challenging to recovery may be declared a false signal.
Dig carefully around the signal
Once you've pinpointed where the signal originates from, dig carefully around the signal without creating a massive hole. Never dig straight down the center of the signal since this can result in various types of damage and even destroy the metal target to render it without value.
Dig neatly and methodical
Dig a neat hole with a methodical approach, placing the dirt in a single pile. Random shoveling and creating a messy hole with multiple piles will result in time wasted scanning the soil removed from the hole, searching for where the target may have ended up.
